Its a Beautiful Day

It is a beautiful day and I spent a little time at the craft table to play with my toys :)


I used the Altenew Beautiful Day stamp set on SU! Whisper White card stock with black Versamark ink, then embossed with clear SU! embossing powder.  The flower was stamped first, then I masked it and did the background stamps.  I used SU! Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron and Pool Party (double-stamped to give it a lighter hue) Classic inks to layer the flower.  The sentiment is from the Altenew Poppy Paint-a-Flower set.  I mounted it on a SU! Crumb Cake background.


This was not the first version of the card.  I actually made 3 total.  Here is where things went wrong!
  1. If you are masking you must mask each time, not just once.  I decided to add a couple flourishes to fill a little empty space above the floral stem and forgot to put the mask back on.  Oops.
  2. Versamark ink does not dry as quickly as SU! ink, and smears. A lot.  So when I stamped the sentiment (last) and decided not to emboss it, then mounted it on the background card it smeared. A lot.
  3. My hands were covered with ink by the time I was done.  It got all over the base of the card. Sigh.
  4. Whisper White craft ink is not white-out.  I tried.  I thought it had worked, but then it dried.  Nope.
  5. I almost exclusively use Tombow Aqua Liquid Glue.  For some reason it shows right through the card stock.  I'll have to look into this little problem.
  6. When it doubt, make another one and glue it on top!  Artist in the works here people!

Done all those things you mention that went wrong. I'm particularly bad at smearing ink everywhere. Turned out alright in the end though, a really pretty card. Thanks for playing at AAA Cards, hope to see you join in with future challenges too. Stay safe and keep crafting!

Such a familiar story! This process is normally hidden and certainly applies to me when I'm doing my DT cards..... A lovely card, with great colouring. Thanks for playing along with our outline and solid theme at Less is More.

School is back in session, virtally, of course and I want to go to the beach.  So.... Two challenge cards to post today. The first card is for CAS on Friday (Nature) (which I missed the linkup to), The Card Concept , Just Add Ink , Time Out Challenge and Sunday Stamps (which I ALSO missed the linkup to, grrrrr). What I learned this week at the craft table

My Thursday night Zoom meeting always brings out the completion of a challenge or two (or 4!), but this week I noticed that many challenges focus was on flowers.  Lucky me!  I just got the new Paint-A-Flower Anemone stamp set from Altenew and I wanted to try it out. I stamped the big image on Bristol watercolor paper in black (purple)  and antique linen (blue) Ranger Distress Ink, then started with the watercolor.  This was my first learning moment!  The black Distress Ink bleeds when you watercolor it!  Sigh.  Ok, I'm moving on because its art and it all turned out fine in the end.  I used my new Karin Brushmarker Pro watercolor markers, and ya'll they are awesome!  This was my FIRST attempt to full-on watercolor and I ended up with a beautiful, striking bit of artwork that I am super proud of.  I tried several different coloring techniques between the two cards and the different layers and will keep working on it cause it was so much f...

Fall is in the air

September is here and Texas has cooled to fall temperatures in a hurry.  55 yesterday!  Time to play outside until it heats up again, as it always does. The first card uses some new fall items from Simon Says Stamp and one old Stampin Up stamp. I started with a base of Strathmore Bristol watercolor paper.  I brushed the background through the new SSS Autumn Splendor stencil with Stampin' Up Crumb Cake, Cajun Craze, Mint Macaron and Chocolate Chip.  The sentiment and pumpkins are from the new SSS Pumpkin Spice Season stamp set, embossed in SU gold on Mint Macaron card stock.  The pumpkins are colored with Cajun Craze Stampin' Blends and Chocolate Chip Stampin' Write marker.  Last, the coffee cup is from retired SU stamp set Merry Cafe.   This card is being entered into: Hand Stamped Sentiments , Festive Friday Challenge (leaves, gold, green, brown), the Watercooler Challenge , and Sunday Stamps.
